As of May 11th 2023, the Governor's office announced that the Massachusetts State COVID-19 public health emergency was over. This aligns with the end of the federal public health emergency. As the new school year begins, we want to provide you with an overview of our ongoing COVID-19 protocols and we will continue to update you as any changes arise. Below is a summary of practices and policies in effect this year.
Masking:
LMS will continue to be mask-flexible. Teachers and staff will support students and colleagues in their choice to mask or not while at school. At this point, our protocols do not require anyone on campus to mask due to positive cases in the community.
COVID-19 Reporting:
We will continue to report COVID-19 cases along with other illnesses using ParentSquare.
Students Testing Positive for COVID-19:
- Families should continue to inform Kim McDonald if and when their student tests positive for COVID-19.
- A student who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to remain out of school (and isolate) for 5 days.
- A student may return to school on Day 6 with minimal and improving symptoms. They will wear a mask during Days 6 through 10, inclusive.
- If a student tests negative on Day 6 (or after), they are not required to wear a mask at school.
LMS continues to encourage all staff and families to stay up to date with vaccines and boosters. Vaccines are an important protection against COVID-19 both in terms of contracting COVID-19 and reducing the impact of COVID-19 if you do test positive.
If you have any questions regarding COVID-19 policies or procedures, please contact Felicia Murphy, School Nurse. If you have any questions about COVID-19, please contact your child’s pediatrician. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. This information is subject to change depending on the public health situation.
