Collection will be at the Car Line from Tuesday, January 16 through Friday, January 26.
In honor of Dr. King’s Call to Service, the Parent Engagement Committee requests your assistance in our 4th annual food drive. Non-perishable items of all varieties are needed. Some examples are nut-butters, beans, canned protein (chicken, fish), canned vegetables, dried pasta, grains, bottled juices and water.
Your LMS student will be bringing home a reusable LMS bag* from school on January 9th and will be learning about the Food Drive in their classrooms. Use the bag to collect food for the food drive and carry it back to LMS. Of course, you can bring more than just what fits in the bag! This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about food insecurity, and show ways they can help by involving them in collecting food and/or shopping for food for others. The food we collect will be donated to the Bristol Food Pantry in Waltham.
*Please note that each family/household will receive one bag, not each student.
Did you know?
- Approximately 22% of households with children in MA are facing food insecurity.
- Between May 2023 and October 2023, 1 in 5 (19.7%) white households with children compared to more than 1 in 3 (33.3%) Black households with children and approximately 1 in 3 (34.6%) Latino/a households with children were food insecure.
- The rising cost of housing and basic needs, like food, are factors that can likely be attributed to the rising rates of food insecurity.
Please help us combat food insecurity in our local community!
